Tim Horton's (Canada) Poised For Further International Growth

18 Jan 2010 - Tim Horton’s Inc. is lining up plans for further international growth after warming American coffee enthusiasts in the Big Apple to its fritters and Timbits.

The iconic coffee company (TSX: THI) says it hopes to outline a new round of expansion plans when it releases its fourth quarter results on Feb. 25.

Chief executive Don Schroeder says the company is in the process of coming up with how to go about international expansion, such as whether it will launch joint venture projects or do it themselves.

Schroeder says there is opportunity for international growth beyond the "small footprint" it has made in Ireland and the U.K.

The Canadian coffee, doughnut and sandwich chain launched a high profile expansion in New York City last summer when it opened 12 new locations, primarily surrounding major tourist spots.

Tim Horton’s opened 38 restaurants in the U.S. and 71 new Canadian locations in the first three quarters of 2009, despite an overall downturn in the quick service industry.
