Dunkin' Donuts (USA) Plans Re-entry into Russia

21 Jan 2010 - Just as Burger King is opening its first store in Russia this week, Russian business daily Vedomosti has reported that Dunkin' Donuts plans to open dozens of stores in Moscow, according to news organization RIA Novosti.

Dunkin' Donuts franchisee Allied Domecq cancelled expansion plans and closed all units in the country in 1999.

Dunkin' franchisee Konstantin Petrov holds the exclusive Dunkin' Donuts franchise rights for Russia and Ukraine, and plans to open at least 50 outlets in Moscow in the next few years, including 10 in 2010, according to the story.

Russia appears to be a hot target for quick-service chains. Yum! Brands announced in December that Russia was one of the country's the company is targeting for growth. And Subway officials said in November that the company plans to make Russia its fourth-biggest European market in 2010 by expanding its network there from 78 to 1,000 outlets by 2015.
