Lollapalooza (US) to Launch in Sweden in 2019
31 May 2018 - Lollapalooza announced this morning that it will be expanding its franchise to Stockholm, Sweden, June 28-29, 2019.
Stockholm will be the third European addition to the fest’s growing roster of international imprints in Germany, France, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Though it’s much too early to announce lineups, the fest will host four stages throughout the city’s downtown park, Gärdet.
“It takes years of research and planning to determine the right cities to host Lollapalooza, and we never take the decision lightly,” C3 Presents partner Charles Attal said. “With its incredible culture, vibrant music seen and beautiful green spaces, Stockholm proved to be an ideal city to add to our growing international family.”
Lollapalooza’s flagship festival in Chicago is set to take place August 2-5, boasting headliners such as Bruno Mars, Jack White and The Weeknd. The festival will procure nearly 400,000 attendees throughout the four-days. According to the festival's site, one-day general admission passes are available for $120, while four-day VIP tickets go for $2,200 plus taxes and fees.
Domestic events aside, the Swedish expansion represents another successful feat for the festival’s founder and Jane’s Addiction singer, Perry Farrell. In a March interview with FORBES, Farrell revealed plans for the Las Vegas launch of Kind Heaven, “a one-of-a-kind immersive complex that will transport attendees into another world, taking them deep into a Southeast Asia-inspired fantasy that is a complete playground for the senses, featuring multiple musical stages, 40 food stations, bars and much, much more.” The project required a $100 million investment, including an investment from Farrell himself.
“The historic Gärdet and the iconic festival Lollapalooza are the perfect match,” Thomas Johansson, Live Nation’s chairman of international music, said. “For decades we have been wanting to do a really big festival in Stockholm and we are very honored and excited to do this together with Charles Attal and his team at C3 Presents. Welcome to Stockholm, Lollapalooza!”
