Burger King (US) UK to Acquire 12 Restaurants from Franchise Partners
06 Jan 2022 - Burger King UK, the master franchisee for Burger King in the UK, has agreed to acquire 12 new restaurants from existing franchise partners.
The acquisition of all the Burger King restaurants operated by Kaykem Fast Foods Limited and Saxby will increase the company's direct-owned portfolio to 172 sites and add restaurants in locations across London, Ipswich, the south east and Kent.
Burger King UK said it was preparing for a "year of growth" and was planning to expand by opening new sites and acquiring locations from franchise partners.
A major remodelling of its restaurants is underway that will include digital ordering kiosks and digital menu screens.
Alasdair Murdoch, chief executive for Burger King UK, said: "I would like to thank Kaykem Fast Foods Limited and Saxby for their support along with the contribution they have made to Burger King in the UK over the past 25 years.
"The restaurants have been run in an exemplary way and we welcome our new colleagues in the restaurant teams as they become part of BKUK". Burger King UK was formed after a joint venture deal was agreed between the brand's parent company Restaurant Brands International and Bridgepoint Capital in November 2017.
Burger King was founded in 1953 and now runs 18,600 restaurants in over 100 countries, including 505 under franchise in the UK.
