2019 Global Restaurant Leadership Distinction Award Winners Announced

30 Sep 2019 - The Global Restaurant Leadership Conference (GRLC), the leading global foodservice conference, has announced the winners of the 2019 Global Restaurant Leadership Distinction Awards (GRLC Distinction Awards). The GRLC Distinction Awards are awarded to those restaurant brands that excel in the global marketplace through Innovation, Industry Service, Partnership and Expansion.

The Innovation category recognizes international success by crossing boundaries, staying ahead of consumer demands and enhancing operations, and GRLC is pleased to recognize Dodo Pizza (Russia). Dodo Pizza has pioneered efforts to develop and incorporate its own proprietary digital operating platform and its well-demonstrated commitment to transparency into all aspects of its business, from publishing monthly store sales to visibility into unit-level kitchen operations.

The Industry Service award honors the brands that give back to their communities, the industry and even the planet itself; the 2019 award goes to The Minor Food Group (Thailand). Minor Food Group stands out in the Industry Service category for its longstanding and commendable efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on the community it serves and the environment in which it operates. Initiatives that helped elevate Minor Food to win in this category includes its new Green Logistic supply chain project, recent efforts to reduce single-use plastics from its restaurants, promotion of sustainability within its operations through the Minor Sustainability Award, and creation of the Minor School Project in support children’s development of English.

The Partnership designation highlights an operator who successfully developed a brand that originated in another country or its own, adapted it to the marketplace and made it a success. SPC wins in the Partnership category for its outstanding representation and commitment to excellence in the operations of its franchised brands, from bringing global restaurant brands to market and unit expansion to menu localization and concept innovation that serve not just as a benchmark for its home market, but globally.

Expansion recognizes growth—increase in sales, unit count and average unit volume over the prior year and tracking into the current year. This year’s winner is Restaurant Brands International (Canada) thanks to the company’s ongoing growth of its three brands—Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes—not just in their home markets but across the globe, complemented by consistent entrance into new global markets. “The GRLC Distinction Awards are a highlight of this conference,” says Chris Keating, Group President, Restaurant Media & Events, Winsight, LLC. “This year’s award winners are leaders in the industry, and we are proud to honor them.”
